Project Vietnam: Culture and Service

Wide Eyed Tours is a  travel operator that offers volunteering opportunities to students. They operate throughout the world, and since November 2018 has been working with Hearts for Hue to add a volunteering component to their Vietnam tour.

In June 2019, Wide Eyed Tours in collaboration with Hearts For Hue organized a project called Vietnam: Culture and Service under the sponsorship of Victoria Shanghai Academy (Hong Kong).

Over the past three days, a group of 27 students and 3 staff volunteered at Sao Mai 2 Kindergarten in the Quang Dien District, approximately 30 minutes from Hue city. The disadvantaged kindergarten was chosen for  the project by Hearts for Hue in conjunction with our existing contacts and with the local authorities.

On the 10th, 11th and 12th June,  the Victoria Shanghai Academy volunteers, along with local volunteer and Hearts For Hue Staff, built a perimeter fence for the kindergarten. To achieve this, the volunteers undertook tasks such as mixing cement, laying bricks, concreting and painting.

Whilst the construction was taking place, another group of volunteers was inside the kindergarten with the students, teaching them basic English skills and working on developmental exercises, including singing, dancing, painting and drawing.

In addition, during lunch time, the local volunteers carried out a Vietnamese lesson for all the international volunteers with the aim of assisting the students to obtain a better understanding of Vietnamese culture.

All the teachers and children of Sao Mai 2 are very happy to have the students in their school. Hearts for Hue would like to express our deep gratitude to the Wide Eyed Tours and Victoria Shanghai Academy for making this project a success.

Hearts For Hue Team.
