Disability Support Program

It is estimated that more than 12 million people living with a disability in Vietnam. Many people living with a disability are unable to work and provide for themselves. This leads to a feeling of helplessness, and many feel like they are a burden to their families, lowing their quality of life.

 

Hearts for Hue aims to address these issues through job creation by teaching people living with a disability how to raise farm animals to sell. This project model allows for positive economic and social growth by giving people the change to create a livelihood and gain a stable, sustainable income.

OVERVIEW:

Heart for Hue’s Disability Support Program provides assistance to individuals living with a disability and families affected by agent orange. The Disability Support Project works to improve peoples living conditions through economic stability and job creation, as well as supporting their integration into society.

H4H’s Disability Support Program has supported more than 1000 people living with a physical or mental disability in Thua Thien Hue province.

PROJECT MODEL:

Hearts for Hue works with the local authority to identify people living with a disability who are unable to work traditional jobs and unable to support themselves. The program then teaches these individuals how to raise animals, such as chickens and pigs, with the goal of job creation through farming.

Individuals are given the materials and support needed to make a living off of farming animals. This includes teaching groups how to properly care for animals, providing initial vaccinations, building chicken coops and pig pens for animals, teaching business practices, and financial support through microfinance to increase revenue.
