January: Ms Nguyen Thi Gai’s Family

Ms Nguyen Thi Gai (1976) is a disadvantaged woman who has been living in the makeshift house. Her family has 5 children who are 18 years old, 13 years old, 12 years old, 4 years old and the youngest boy 2 years old. All of them are at school age, however, three of them all dropped out of school. She is making an income mainly from a job as a concrete brick maker with 100,000 vnd (4.5USD) per day, however, it depends on the season, especially in the rainy season, and it will be less than 100,000 vnd. Due to the heavy work, she has got a degenerative spine. Her husband is working as a construction worker in Ho Chi Minh City generating 200,000vnd per day.

In the past, they were not able to access toilets and bathrooms, so it caused a lot of difficulties for them, especially for women. In addition, they would like to generate income for chicken raising activity, and then they can pay educational fees for their children.

A group of 13 international volunteers of We Are Bamboo Travel Company visited Hue City and lent their hands to help the disadvantaged family to improve their living quality with the assistance of Hearts for Hue.  The construction of a toilet, bathroom, kitchen and chicken coop has finished completely within only three days thanks to the great team effort. In addition to construction, a group has donated some necessaries for the family to help them have a warm, happy and fulfill Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays. A family was very overwhelmed by all Bamboo Volunteers help and donations. This will be an unforgettable memory of the family and We Are Bamboo volunteers.

Hearts for Hue.
