February: Duong No Primary School

In February, Hearts For Hue was delighted to welcome two Australian volunteers and two staff members from the “We Are Bamboo” travel agency to Hue. We Are Bamboo does a monthly volunteer tour of Vietnam to give back to local communities.

The foreigners spent three days in Duong No Primary School with a range of interesting activities. The international volunteers together with Hearts For Hue Vietnamese volunteers refurbished the cafeteria, the toilets and hallway of the school by cleaning and painting new color to prepare for the new year upcoming. Additionally, the primary school organized Culture Exchange session which gave an opportunity to pupils to gain a better understanding of the Australia Culture where the volunteers come from. Simultaneously, the Bamboo volunteers also delivered some English lessons including many interested English games and English songs which encouraged students to learn English.

After the English lessons, the Bamboo volunteers enjoyed playing football with the pupils even though the playing yard was covered by the mud. For the last day, the volunteers helped to plant the vegetables in a school garden. Then, a thank you ceremony was celebrated by school and the international volunteers presented 28 sets of school supplies to the most underprivileged children in school.

The volunteers have brought about not only the improvement for primary school but also joyful for pupils. Hearts for Hue is very proud to continue the relationship with We Are Bamboo, and proud of the impact these monthly volunteering projects are making on local communities in need. Hearts for Hue thanks Bamboo Project for their continued collaboration and looks forward to future impactful projects together.
