On May 27 and 28, 2022, Hearts for Hue was very pleased to welcome two volunteers from America, Priscilla Liang and Keith Sipprelle, for a visit to learn about Hearts for Hue and its programs.
Priscilla Liang, Ph.D. is a Professor of Finance at California State University Channel Islands, and is currently serving as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar at Da Nang University of Economics. Priscilla’s husband Keith Sipprelle is a successful lawyer with more than 30 years of legal experience in the United States, and has helped many Asian companies in resolving international disputes during his career.
On May 27, Priscilla and Keith visited the Hearts for Hue office to meet all the H4H staff members and learn more about the projects and programs that have been implemented by Hearts for Hue. Priscilla and Keith were very impressed by H4H’s achievements, including the microfinance program currently sponsored by VESAF and the DOVE FUND. With her wealth of expertise, Priscilla would love to support H4H in developing a monitoring and evaluation system for the H4H microfinance program.
On May 28, H4H invited Priscilla and Keith to a visit several families in Vy Da town that have participated in and benefited from H4H’s microfinance program. These visits provided Priscilla and Keith with a wonderful opportunity to talk with and see the life of the local people, and to better understand how H4H’s small loans have helped to improve the living conditions of local families.
May 28 was also full of smiles, as Priscilla and Keith participated in H4H’s Motorbike Book Club (M.B.C.) which is sponsored by Tamra Rose. M.B.C. supports disadvantaged children living in rural Hue in becoming passionate life-long learners outside of the classroom by providing a mobile library service every weekend. Priscilla and Keith spent the day volunteering for the program by reading books and playing with more than forty children in Con Hen and Thuy Phu villages. It had been such a long time since M.B.C kids had seen foreign guests that they were overjoyed and had a wonderful time reading books and learning English with Priscilla and Keith. Besides reading books, the kids also spent time in a craft session – making gift bags. Many of the children gifted their hand-made products to Priscilla and Keith to thank them for their visit.
All the children and the H4H team would love to see Priscilla and Keith again in Hue soon.
