Goat raising program sponsored by Veterans For Peace

Under the sponsorship of Veterans For Peace (USA), Hearts for Hue in association with Agricultural Service Center and A Ngo’s People Committee, has formulated a Goat Raising Program to provide additional assistance people affected by Agent Orange in A Ngo Commune, A Luoi District. The project has supported for 10 families who have family members affected by Agent Orange. Mrs Loan’s family is one of the beneficiaries of the project.

According to the local authority, Mrs Loan’s household is one of the poorest families in A Ngo Commune. The family consists of 5 people including Mr Loan’s husband, Mrs Loan and her three children.  Recently, Mrs Loan’s husband has lost his job due to the disease. Mrs.’s Loan income was limited to the low profits made from the selling of the few vegetables she plants. As a result, the income was not sufficient to cover their daily expenses. They live from hand to mouth. Additionally, their two children were at risk of dropping out of school. Moreover, they have been living in the house consisted of rotted materials while the floor was soiled.

In 2020, Mrs Loan has received a goat which funded by the Veterans For Peace within the framework of “Goat raising project for families affected by Agent Orange in Ngo Commune”. At the moment, the gifted goat is growing healthy which weighing about 29 kg. Particularly, it gave birth to 2 baby goats. Mrs Loan has transferred a newborn goat to a family who has the same disadvantaged situation as her. Mrs Loan couldn’t hide her bliss while looking at their baby goats. The herd of goats can bring her a potential income of 2 – 4 million.  She said: “I’m overjoyed to have a goat as well as learn from the goat raising technique training. Now, I am able to support my children’s education and cover my daily living expense. Thank you, the donors, for supporting us and I hope to be received more support to upscale my raising model”
