The coronavirus continues to spread worldwide with over 850,000 confirmed cases. Updated on 1st April, there are 212 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Vietnam. Hence, in order to give a hand in combatting the Coronavirus battle, Hearts For Hue has implemented a distribution of 2400 facemasks and 1.200 hand sanitizer bottles to a marginalized community in Thua Thien Hue Province. The program was sponsored by Mr Neil Hannan with a fund of 2000 USD.
In Vietnam, the number of cases continues to rise recently. The Ministry of Health, therefore, recommends some prevent coronavirus spread which focusing on wearing facemasks in public places and using hand sanitizer. As a new law issued declared if anyone goes to market/ public areas without a face mask, he/she will be fined 200.000dvn (8.6USD).
Hearts For Hue conducted a survey of need assessment of facemasks and hand sanitizer in Huong Xuan, Quang Phuoc, Quang Phu and Hue’s outskirts areas. We have found:
– The fact that marginalized people in outskirts areas have not sufficient access to the facemasks and hand sanitizer during the Coronavirus outbreak.
– Due to lacking the fund, the local governments are not able to provide sufficiently facemasks and hand sanitizer for the residents.
Understanding the difficulties that they have faced, Hearts For Hue in collaboration with the local authorities, under sponsorship of Mr Neil Hannan, has provided 2.400 washable and reusable face masks and 1.200 hand sanitizer bottles produced by the College of Industrial.
From 1st April to 15th April, Vietnam imposes nationwide distancing in order to limit the spread of COVID-19 that has shown no signs of abating. Hereby, now more than ever, it is necessary to continues the distribution of facemasks and hand sanitizer for disadvantaged communities in Thua Thien Hue Province.

Additionally, Mr Neil Hannan also provide a timely assistance by distributing 140 sets of indispensable food to the needy people in five locations:
- Huong So Ward: 20 sets
- Huong Van Commune: 50 sets
Phu Gia Commune: 30 sets - Thuy Phu Fishing Village: 16 sets
- Hue’s areas: 24 sets
Each received 10 kg of rice, a case of noodles, and a bottle of fish sauce, which will sustain a typical family for approximately one week. The recipients were very grateful and overwhelmed with happiness.
