Hearts For Hue (H4H) was very honored to collaborate with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Brunei as a joint facilitator for the ASEAN Young Professional Volunteer Corps (AYPVC) in Hue city, Vietnam from November 23rd to December 6th 2014. This is the fourth project of AYPVC in ASEAN member countries. In 2013, the first three AYPVC projects were held successfully in Cambodia, Indonesia and Philippines. This year, during 2 weeks, at Hai Duong commune, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province, Vietnam, 24 participants from 10 ASEAN countries and 16 local volunteers conducted various activities, resulting in positive influence on the local community. Specifically, at Hai Duong kindergarten, the main gate, fence, and playground, along with flower and vegetable gardens were built by the team, which contributes greatly to creating a clean, green and safe learning environment for students and teachers of the kindergarten. In addition, the volunteers also held English and life skills classes for students in the kindergarten and local primary school. Despite a short time of teaching, interesting lessons were conducted effectively by volunteers, which left a good impression on the students.
On the other hand, with environmental skills and expertise, the AYPVC volunteers delivered environment workshops successfully for local youth and community with aims of raising their awareness of environmental protection as well as proposing solutions to tackle the waste management problem and enhance the quality of living environment. Besides this, a mass cleanup campaign along the Hai Duong beach was conducted by the AYPVC team in collaboration with the youth union and local people. These are such practical activities for the locals since littering and a polluted environment have been serious problems. In this project, the total fund which AYPVC contributed? for the construction was over 4,200 USD.
Apart from community activities, thanks to AYPVC Vietnam, through volunteering for H4H, Vietnamese volunteers in general and Hue volunteers in particular had great opportunity to meet and work with talented young professionals from different ASEAN countries, which helps to strengthen the relationships among Vietnam and other ASEAN members.
On behalf of H4H, we would like to thank you sincerely for the great contribution from AYPVC and Brunei government as well as dedicated support of Vietnamese volunteers for making possible the success of the program.
