Since 2011, under the sponsorship of the DOVE Fund, Hearts For Hue in collaboration with the People’s Committee of the Vy Da Ward has been implementing a Microfinance Project with the main purpose of creating jobs and generating income for the disadvantaged people.
The Microfinance Project offers the range loans of 7.000.000dvn to 15.000.000dvn to disadvantaged people of impoverished communes for a wide range of purposes such as raincoat making, clam rice making and running small enterprises. Over the past 10 years, the Project has represented a practical and significant benefit for 216 participants in Vy Da Ward, with the total fund of 1.057.790.000vnd.
Mrs Duong Thi Thu is a group leader. Her family lives in Alley 15 Ung Binh street, Vy Da Ward, Hue City. Mrs Thu and her husband are working as traditional hat makers. They have 3 children, in which 2 children are at school age. They are now studying at grade 7 and grade 5. Mrs Thu has been a part of our microfinance program since 2011. From the first round to the fourth round, Mrs Thu borrowed the loan to purchase more sewing accessories to supply for souvenir shops. At that time, her income increased from 70.000-100.000vnd per day. From the fifth round to the seventh round, Mrs Thu has bought sewing accessories to make completed traditional hats. Mrs Thu has sold traditional hats for the souvenir shops in the tourist areas. From a hireling, she has run her own business by selling completed products to stores directly.
It contributes to an additional income of 150.000-200.000vnd per day which assists her cover living expenses and supports her children to go to school. After several rounds of loans, Mrs. Thu is evaluated as a good businesswoman. She always repays the loan punctually. Besides, she was also voted as the great and dedicated leader during the program. Due to the negative effect of the Covid 19 epidemic, the number of tourists buying at souvenir shops has decreased a lot. This has exerted a negative impact on product consumption as well as family income. On May 17, 2021, she borrowed the 8th round with the amount of 10 million dong. Mrs Thu shared: “I purchase more materials to make hats so that I could sell my own hat products through online social media like Facebook.”
Mrs. Thu would like to express her deep gratitude to the Dove fund for sponsoring loans for the disadvantaged women in Vy Da Ward, which help women get independent in their financial conditions. She would like to get more loans to expand her business as well as diverse more products which meet the demand of the consumption market at the moment. This is the only solution that helps her overcome the obstacles caused by Covid 19.
