With financial support from Vietbay and the Lotus Fund, Hearts For Hue has implemented a scholarship program for 65 children with disabilities and those from disadvantaged families in Hương Vân and Quảng Phú communes, Huế City, Vietnam.

The program has been providing valuable support, enabling these children to attend school, enhance their academic performance, and work toward a brighter future. We had the opportunity to visit the home of Phạm Khánh Băng, one of the scholarship recipients, and meet with her family.
Thanks to Vietbay’s scholarship funding, Băng and her brother, Sâm, are able to continue their studies for the academic year 2024-2025. At just 9 years old, Băng is part of a family of four living in the rural village of Huong Van, where life has always been challenging. Without this support, Băng’s opportunity to attend school might have been lost.
Her father, Phạm Văn Thương, suffered a tragic accident in his youth, resulting in the loss of both hands. This has placed significant strain on the family, both emotionally and financially. Despite his disability, Băng’s father is still able to drive a motorbike and manage basic farm tasks, such as tending to chickens and farming pomelos. Băng’s mother works in a nearby factory, but her low income is not sufficient to fully support the family.

The family does receive a modest disability fund from the government, but it falls short of meeting their needs. In between their studies, Băng and her brother help their father as much as they can, contributing to the family’s survival. Even so, paying for basic school supplies and books is often a struggle, putting additional pressure on their education.
Băng’s story reflects a life of constant effort, but the family remains hopeful. With each challenge, they work together, trusting that things will improve. Programs like Vietbay’s scholarship initiative provide a glimmer of hope, making it possible for families like Băng’s to continue moving forward and dream of a better future.
