The livelihood support program for people with disabilities and underprivileged children, funded by Vietbay Teens through the Lotus Fund and implemented by the Hearts for Hue Foundation in collaboration with local partners, has achieved significant results during its implementation from August to December 2024. With a total funding of USD 15,000, the program focused on two main activities: Chicken Raising activity and providing scholarships, contributing to the improvement of both material and spiritual lives for vulnerable groups in the community.
Building Chicken Coops and Providing Breeding Stock
The program supported the construction of 10 chicken coops and provided 50 breeding chickens for each family with members who have disabilities in the local area. This initiative was not merely a livelihood aid but also an opportunity for people with disabilities to actively participate in economic activities, reducing their dependence on families or social welfare.
This participation helped individuals with disabilities enhance their economic management skills and provided them with the motivation to strive for self-sufficiency. The positive outcomes from this model also brought renewed hope, inspiring others in the community.
In addition to providing chicken coops and breeding stock, the supported households received training on chicken farming techniques and coop management to ensure the sustainability and long-term effectiveness of the model. Preliminary assessments show that these families have improved their economic conditions and increased confidence in their ability to be self-reliant.
Scholarships for Children with Disabilities and from Underprivileged Families
Alongside livelihood support, the program awarded 65 scholarships, each valued at USD 100 to children with disabilities or from underprivileged families. These scholarships not only reduced financial burdens for families but also served as a motivation for the children to continue their educational journey.
The scholarships hold profound significance, offering not only material support but also demonstrating the community’s care and encouragement for children’s right to education, especially for those in vulnerable groups.
Community Impact and Effectiveness
The program has brought about positive changes in the lives of beneficiaries, both economically and emotionally. By combining livelihood support and education, it created a holistic impact, enhancing the quality of life and raising societal awareness about the rights and opportunities of people with disabilities.
The program’s success also contributed to changing community perceptions, breaking down stereotypes, and fostering an environment of unity and sharing. Consequently, people with disabilities not only received support but also felt respected and acknowledged in their roles within the community.
