Started in June 2023 and generously sponsored by PiCCA, the “GOAT RAISING PROJECT FOR FAMILIES AFFECTED BY AGENT ORANGE IN QUANG NHAM, VIETNAM” aimed to improve the living conditions of 60 AO families.
With the collaboration between Hearts for Hue and the People’s Committee of Quang Nham commune, several activities were implemented, including six training sessions led by Prof. Nguyen Xuan Ba, goat shelter construction, goat distributions, and vaccination. Particularly, a Goat Raising Club was established and became a place where participants meet and share their experiences on goat raising and marketing, enriching their social lives.
As a result of the project, 88.6% goats survived and there are 35 new-born baby goats in total. The 60 households now have essential knowledge to sustainably maintain their goat-raising activities and businesses, as well as to form a stable community for exchanging and marketing.
On July 30th, 2024, Heart for Hue, The People’ Committee of Quang Nham Commune, and Goat-Raising Club delightedly organized a closing ceremony, marking the great success of The Goat-Raising Project. At the end of the meeting, as a way to motivate the families, the five households with the best production outcomes so far received a gift in celebration of their achievements.
The goat-raising project has brought about profound effects on not only the quality of life but also the social lives of the 60 AO families in particular and the local residents in general.
