From December 5 to 7, 2023, Hearts for Hue collaborated with Vietnam Experience to organize a volunteer project for a group of students from Rouse Hill Anglican College at Quang Phu commune, Thua Thien Hue province.
45 students and 5 teachers of the school were divided into different groups to assist two families in building two chicken coops and constructing a vegetable garden for a kindergarten.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa is 77 years old. She is a poor and lonely householder and has no children. Ms. Hoa cannot do laborious work, but she could raise livestock and grow vegetables.
The family has six members: the husband is Hoang Xuan Lam, and the wife is Lai. Mr. Lam had a serious stroke in 2016, and his health has not yet recovered. He cannot work but can take care of his own personal hygiene. His wife, Ms. Lai, has diabetes and has to take medicine regularly. His youngest son, who had an accident, paralyzed both legs and is now lying on the bed. In addition, there is a granddaughter who is in 2nd grade this year. His family does not know who his father is. His mother has remarried, so she lives with her grandparents, Mr. Lam and Mrs. Lai. Their second daughter is currently a pharmacist. The family is in difficult economic circumstances and belongs to the poor households of the village.
After constructing two chicken coops, the volunteer group also provided each family with 50 full-vaccinated chicks, chicken food, feeders, and waterers.
In addition, the team also supported Sao Mai 2 Kindergarten to build a vegetable garden to provide children with fresh vegetables every day, helping the school ensure the quality of the meals. Particularly, the teachers and students from Rouse Hill Anglican College also presented school supplies to the children.
