On 12, 13 and 14th July 2018, Hearts For Hue is very pleased to welcome 17 international volunteers and 2 staff from We Are Bamboo to visit Vinh Thai Community, Hue, Vietnam. The group of volunteers spent 3 days to build a chicken coop and kitchen for the poor family has people with mental illness.
Mrs. Ho Thi Sen is one of the poorest households in Vinh Thai Commune, Phu Vang District, Thua Thien Hue Province. Mrs. Sen is now 61 years old and her husband passed away in 2001. Now, Mrs. Sen is living with a daughter (Mrs. Luyen) who is a person with mental illness and granddaughter 3 years old. Mrs. Luyen used to be a patient of Thua Thien Hue Social Center. Mrs. Luyen’s health situation now is getting better now but Mrs. Luyen is still not able to do anything to raise her child. All the living expenses and school fee have been the burden on Mrs. Sen’s shoulders even though she only generates a meager income from farming. Moreover, the kitchen is made of makeshift materials which are unsafe for the family to use and it also effects on their family’s health.
Thanks to the supporting of the volunteers, the construction of a chicken coop and a kitchen has been done in just 3 days. Moreover, the group also presented 20 chicks and some necessaries for the disadvantaged family. The family now is able to raise the chicks and generate more income. Hearts For Hue is very proud to be a partner with We Are Bamboo Company on the way of improving the livelihood of the people with mental illness.
