Twenty Years of DOVE Fund

On the 6th and the 7th of January, 2020 Hearts For Hue in collaboration with Huong Xuan People welcomed a delegation to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of DOVE Fund in Vietnam. The Development of Viet Nam Endeavours (DOVE) Fund is an American non-governmental organization, supporting marginalised people in Vietnam in the areas of education, health and economic opportunity.

Since 2007, with the financial support of DOVE Fund, Hearts For Hue has been carrying out many programmes for marginalised groups including women and children in Hue. Over the years, some of these programmes have included economic opportunity programmes through microfinance, health programmes through water, sanitation and hygiene, and education programmes through solar lights and kindergarten refurbishments.

On this occasion, DOVE Fund took the opportunity to visit some of the programs in Hue:

Support for people living with mental illness in the Social Centre

Over the years, DOVE has supported vegetable growing and chicken, duck and goat raising programmes in Hue’s Social Centre. These programmes have helped provide a nutritious diet and an income stream at the Centre. Furthermore, they build a sense of purpose and community and help patients transition to lives outside of the Social Centre.

Solar lights in Thuy Phu fishing village

Families living on fishing boats have either no or inadequate electricity. Providing solar lights is a sustainable, affordable method of providing light at night. The light offers greater security to the families, and allows children to continue learning after sunset in a community where school results are below national standards.

Microfinance in Vy Da Ward

DOVE Fund visited three borrowers, the first borrower has taken a loan to sell flowers during Tet (Vietnam’s New Year festival), the second is a small hairdressing salon and the third sells traditional Hue food “nem lui” and “clam rice”.

Tay Xuan Kindergarten

New facilities in Tay Xuan kindergarten have been built with funding from DOVE Fund. Staff and students from Tay Xuan performed traditional dances on the day of DOVE Fund’s 20th anniversary and the kindergarten principal took us to survey other kindergartens in the area which may receive future DOVE Fund funding.

DOVE Fund is one of Hearts for Hue’s longest standing donors. We are incredibly grateful for DOVE Fund’s longstanding support and hope DOVE Fund enjoyed witnessing the positive impacts in the communities we have worked in together since 2007. We wish that this collaboration will continue to be fruitful for many more years.
