From March 9 to 12, 2024, 31 members of the DOVE Fund, including the Vice Chairman, Mr. Nguyen Khac Do, and Mr. Fred Grimm, had a memorable trip in Hue, Vietnam. In the past few years, with the great sponsorship of the DOVE Fund, Hearts for Hue has carried out various projects to support the poor as well as the needy and improve their quality of life.
On this year’s trip, the DOVE Fund had a four-day visit to different project sites in Thua Thien Hue province. Additionally, the members also distributed some gifts to students and families.
- March 09, 2024: A computer distribution at Phu An 1 Primary School
The DOVE Fund presented not only 10 new computers to Phu An Primary School but also toothpaste and toothbrushes to the students there.
Phu An 1 Primary School is located in Phu An commune, Phu Vang district, Thua Thien Hue province, about 20 km from the city center. The main facility, funded by Mr. Dodie Gaines, founder of the D.O.V.E Fund, through UNICEF, was built in 2000 in Dong Mieu village, with a two-storey building.
- March 10, 2024: A visit to A Luoi district
The members attended the ToT training of the project “Empowering Health and Well-Being for Orange Agent-Affected Individuals in A Luoi district, Thua Thien Hue province.” for 20 doctors and 20 medical workers of CHCs and the District Hospital. After that, they went to 5 AO families in the district and learned about the consequences that Agent Orange left on humans after the war.
- March 11, 2024: Eyecare Program in Nam Dong district and Handwashing Station Program in Huong Tra town
On the morning of March 11, the group had a 40-kilometer trip to Nam Dong district to visit the Eyecare Program. Specifically, at Khe Tre Secondary School, the members had a chance to observe the eye examination process for the students. Later, they spent time playing with the children and gave them toothpaste and toothbrushes as gifts.
In the afternoon, the members traveled about 20km to Huong Tra town, where the project of Handwashing Station and Personal Hygiene was based. They came to Tu Ha 1 Primary School to learn about the project summary and watch the children practicing handwashing skills. Before leaving, the members gave the students toothpaste and toothbrushes and took many photos with them.
- March 12, 2024: A visit to Hue Social Center and Microfinance Program
In the morning, the DOVE Fund came to visit the Social Center, where they sponsored the project “Vocational training and job creation for people with mental illness in the Social Center in Hue.”. They had a short, warm meeting with Ms. Ha Thi Hong Phuong, the vice director, to get the basic information as well as the development of the center in the past year. After that, they went to different sites to learn about the activities and daily lives of the people there.
Finally, the group traveled to Quang Phu commune and visited 4 participants in the Microfinance Program, which has been sponsored by the DOVE Fund since 2011. The members came to see how the loans have supported the businesses of those participants.
Generally, the DOVE Fund trip in 2024 was a great opportunity for all members to learn about the program in Vietnam and see how their support has helped the community.
