Singapore Institute of Technology: December

Within the framework of its Community Service Program, Hearts for Hue (H4H), successfully organized a community service program for fourteen international volunteers from Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) at Tay Xuan kindergarten, Huong Xuan ward, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province, Vietnam between 21st and 29th December 2014. During the ten days, Singaporean volunteers, along with support from local volunteers and workers, built a gate and half of a surrounding fence for the kindergarten. In addition, the delegation also held English classes and Christmas celebrations for the children in Tay Xuan kindergarten and Huong Van kindergartens (where the first volunteers delegation from SIT participated in volunteering in 2013). H4H also organized the volunteers to visit local families and to take part in a cultural exchange program with students from Hue Industrial College and to visit famous attractions in Hue with the kind support of local H4H volunteers. Through these activities, H4H hopes that international volunteers gained an insight into life in rural areas as well as the characteristics of Vietnamese culture. In this project, SIT contributed a total of USD7,390 for the construction costs.

This program is very meaningful to the locals as it creates a clean and safe learning environment for their children. Moreover, this is also a good opportunity for Vietnamese youth to lend a hand to help the community as well as strengthen the relationship between Vietnam and Singapore.

On behalf of Hearts for Hue, we would like to thank very much both the volunteers from SIT and the Vietnamese volunteers whose great contribution and dedicated support helped to make this program a very successful one.
