Rotary Visits Hearts for Hue

On January 8th, a delegation from Rotary District 3310 visited Hearts for Hue. Rotary is a long standing supporter of various Hearts for Hue projects, and this year, visited our Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project in A Luoi and our Chicken Raising Club in Vinh Thai.

The WASH project was completed in 2018, and provides clean, running water to 310 households, one kindergarten and one primary school, as well as hygienic latrine systems to 50 of those households. A fuller report of this project was provided in July of last year, and we are happy to say that this visit was little different; families and schools are still using the water system as intended.

Vinh Thai’s Chicken Raising Club is an ongoing concern and with 50 new households having constructed chicken coops to a suitable standard, the Rotary delegates were able to assist in the distribution of 5,000 fully vaccinated, 21-day old chicks. Chicken distribution day is a highlight of our calendar, the participants are excited and happy, the chicks themselves are incredible cute and at the end of it all, there is a beautiful procession of old women with conical hats, teetering across paddy fields on their bicycles, cartons of baby chicks piled high.

After distributing chickens to this, the second group of 50 households to receive chicks in the Vinh Thai Chicken Raising Club, Rotary visited households from the first group of 50 families. These families finished constructing their coops and received 100 baby chicks two months ago. To our great pleasure, all but three families have seen their baby chicks grow to maturity and will be selling their chickens in the coming weeks.

Hearts for Hue is incredibly grateful for the ongoing partnership with Rotary, and to all of the Rotary delegates who took the time to personally visit our projects. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and look forward to working further with Rotary in the New Year.
