From the 10th to the 13th of October, Hearts For Hue (H4H) collaborated with the Vietnam Experience to organize a volunteer project in Hue for 28 international students and teachers of Concordia International School Hanoi. This project is within the framework of H4H’s community service program, allowing volunteers to share, and improve the lives of the poor in Hue, Vietnam.
In this project, we aimed to create jobs and improve income for two disadvantaged households in Huong Van Ward through the chicken rasing program. We are pleased to support Ms. Dung and Ms. Cuc’s families, who are the most poverty in the Huong Van community.
Ms. Le Thi Kim Dung’s family
Ms. Le Thi Kim Dung (1976) is one of the poverty households in the Huong Van Community. She is now living with her elderly mother (65 years old) and her children who are studying in grade 10 and grade 5. Her oldest daughter has dropped out of school due to the financial burden. Ms. Dung is working as a farmer and seasonal hired worker with an unstable income. Currently, she tries to make ends meet by raising some chickens and pigs. However, building an appropriate chicken coop to scale up her raising model is beyond her reach.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Cuc’ family
Ms. Nguyen Thi Cuc (1966) is also one of the disadvantaged households in the Huong Van Community. Her husband passed away 8 years ago due to a stroke. She generates a meager income from selling Tofu every day. As a street vendor, she must push the vendor cart to the market. Particularly in the rainy season, it is hard for her to earn a living, so Mrs. Cuc would like to raise chickens to diversify her income as well as repair her current house.
Understanding the difficulties they have been facing, a group of 28 students and teachers of Concordia International School Hanoi spent 4 days building a chicken coop for their family. In addition, a group also provided 100 fully vaccinated baby chickens to two families to raise.
Ms. Dung’s and Ms. Cuc’s families have very unfortunate backgrounds that need help; therefore, they are pleased to receive tremendous support from Hearts For Hue and the Concordia International School Hanoi. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the support from the Concordia International School Hanoi and the cooperation with the Vietnam Experience. Together we can make a difference in our community!
