In 2021, Hong Ha Commune, A Luoi District, Thua Thien Hue Province has received the support of the DOVE FUND and Hearts for Hue. Ethnic minorities in the commune were provided with 50 toilets with septic tanks and bathrooms. The project has brought about remarkable benefits to Hong Ha villagers in daily activities, particularly in these households below:
Mr. Hoai Van Ho (born in 1988). He is living with a big family of 7 people in a small house. Mr. Ho generated an unstable income from farming. Their household is recognized as a poverty household in the commune. In the past, the family used a homemade latrine which is substandard and unhygienic. Most of the family members are women, so they found it inconvenient to toilet and bath at the temporary toilet, particularly during the rainy seasons. Under the sponsorship of the DOVE Fund, a new toilet and bathroom were being built completely. The new appropriate toilet is clean and odorless. Mr. Hoai Van Ho expressed: “The project not only helped us to improve our toilet facility but also had a great impact on the communication with people in my village, where ethnic minority mostly live, helping to persuade us to change our old unsanitary customs and lifestyle which can easily cause environmental pollution by creating a new, cleaner, more secure and safer habit”
In the same situaton, Mr Ho Van Soi expressed: “My family has 7 people, while some of them are a girl and woman. We had to go to the forest nearby then we were in need. We are overjoyed to have a new and sanitary toilet now.”
