Preliminary assessment of cancer screening program for Orange Agent-Affected People in A Luoi District, Thua Thien Hue Province

In 2024, the Dove Fund sponsored the project “Empowering Health and Well-Being for Orange Agent-Affected Individuals” in A Luoi District, Thua Thien Hue Province. This initiative was conducted in collaboration with Hearts for Hue, the Oncology Center of Hue Central Hospital, and A Luoi District Medical Center. The primary objective of this project is to enhance the quality of life for those impacted by focusing on early prevention, effective treatment, and comprehensive post-treatment care.

The program includes several essential activities, such as training sessions for trainers (TOT) that address cancer prevention, screening, and palliative care for cancer patients. A total of 18 doctors and 18 healthcare workers from Community Health Centers (CHCs) and the District Health Center participated in this training. Additionally, the initiative conducted five phases of cancer screenings for 1,500 individuals affected by Agent Orange across 17 communes and A Luoi town. Further cancer examinations were also carried out for suspected cases at Hue Central Hospital. Furthermore, five phases of palliative care have been provided for individuals with cancer and chronic diseases, with ongoing efforts to complete this initiative in the coming months.
