SMU: April + May 2014

In collaboration with the Singapore Management University (SMU) Hearts for Hue managed its volunteers and over 60 students from Singapore to participate in volunteer work in Thua Thien Hue province with the purpose of strengthening the relations between the youth of Singapore and Vietnam. While working together the students are enabled to get insights into the different cultures and also improve the infrastructure of kindergartens in disadvantaged areas. During this visit the delegation will be divided into three working groups that will help with construction work and english teaching in three different kindergartens.

These are their programs:

– Kindergarten Tien Luc, Loc An commune, Phu Loc district with a total of 23 students. They build fences and a playground for the children with the guidance of the local builders.

– Kindergarten Vinh Phu, Vinh Phu commune, Phu Vang district with a total of 20 students. With the help of local builders, the students will build fences for the kindergarten and will teach children some english communication skills

– Kindergarten Xuan duong, Quang An, Quang Dien district with a total of 21 students. They will also join the construction work, building fences and teaching english.

In addition to that the delegation also has a cultural exchange program with the vietnamese students of DTU. Students and volunteers of Hearts for Hue will give the Singaporean students some information about life in Vietnam by showing them the university and some famous places in Hue within a city tour.

The total fund for the Singaporean delegation to support the construction work at the kindergartens is $10.550.
