Ngee Ann Polytechnic: September 2013

From 28 August until 7 September Hearts for Hue and Vinh Phu Kindergarten hosted 24 students and two teachers from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore. The students were participating in an ongoing international development exchange program with Singaporean Universities. Hearts for Hue works with a number of educational institutions in Singapore to bring collaborative projects to Thua-Thien Hue province.

The goal of the project was to construct a new front courtyard for the kindergarten which, prior to the program, was bare soil. The volunteers also helped to teach English to the children at the Kindergarten and the local primary school. The dedicated students from Singapore raised a substantial amount of money to cover the cost of materials and make the project possible.

Enthusiastic Hearts for Hue volunteers accompanied the Singaporean group to act as interpreters of local language and culture.

The volunteers toiled hard, both building the courtyard and construction site and in the classroom. The program was a great success, leading to new friendships and lasting memories. And of course, a great new courtyard at the Kindergarten, which in a short time will develop into a beautiful garden.

Congratulations to the teachers and students from Singapore, and to the teachers and students of Vinh Phu kindergarten. A big thanks to the dedicated and hard working Hearts for Hue volunteers, the Vinh Phu community and all the authorities who collaborated to make the project possible!
